Biography

Marilyn Ann Deeds is both artist and teacher.  She began her serious study of watercolor in 1974.  A native Californian, living among and experiencing the coastal tidelands, open expanses of ocean and western desert has provided Marilyn Ann with unlimited subject matter.  Favorite subjects are the shoreline, tranquil landscapes, moody harbors and buildings emanating character and history.

 Marilyn Ann attended Occidental College in Los Angeles California and receive her BA degree at University of California, Santa Barbara.  She has also studied at Cal State Sonoma and has benefited from many painting workshops, studying with Robert Gray, Richard Yip, Robert Landry and Christopher Shink.

Professional organizations have included Santa Barbara Art Association, serving as vice president, Goleta Art Association,  Paso Robles Art Association Governing Board, Morro Bay Art Association, San Luis Obispo Art Association where she served as vice president of the board of directors and Co-director for Gallery 113 in Santa Barbara, California.

Marilyn Ann's career experiences have been diverse and satisfying:  elementary school teacher, mother of five children, watercolor instructor in the public school setting as well as teaching privately in her studio.  As a successful, practicing professional artist she made her art a business for twenty two years.
